Two fresh images of the suspected shooter who killed UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson have been made public by the fresh York Police Department (NYPD).
Early on Sunday, December 8, the NYPD posted pictures of the suspect on X, formerly Twitter.
One image shows the individual who is thought to have been responsible for the murder of the 50-year-old CEO in Manhattan on Wednesday, December 4, sitting in what looks to be the backseat of a taxi.
The person outside the car is shown in another picture.
UPDATE: According to the NYPD’s news account on X, the pictures below show a person of interest who is wanted for questioning in connection with the December 4 homicide in Midtown Manhattan.
The NYPD is still conducting its comprehensive investigation, and we are requesting the public’s assistance. Please contact the NYPD Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) if you know anything about this case. You can also direct message @NYPDTips on Instagram or X. The group added that there is a reward of up to $10,000 for information that results in an arrest and conviction.
New images were released four days after a shooter fired at least three rounds from behind Thompson while brandishing a 9mm handgun before riding off into Central Park on a bicycle.
According to NBC News, ABC News, The New York Post, and other outlets citing police sources, the man was wearing a very distinctive gray backpack at the time of the shooting, and authorities have since reportedly found the item in Central Park, containing a jacket and Monopoly money.
A request for comment from PEOPLE regarding the reported backpack find on December 8 was not immediately answered by the NYPD.
Investigators had reason to think the alleged shooter was no longer in the city, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch earlier told CNN.
After exiting Central Park, the suspect was spotted strolling close to 86th Street and Columbus Avenue, over 30 blocks north of the crime scene, NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny informed the source.
Then, according to reports, a cab took him to a bus terminal with interstate buses on 178th Street and Broadway.
CNN reports that the suspect traveled to New York on a bus that departed Atlanta almost a week before to Thompson’s shooting death.
The phrases “deny,” “defend,” and “depose” were found on shell casings at the crime scene, according to ABC News, which cited authorities.
