US President Donald Trump intensified his attack on diversity initiatives on Tuesday, asking aviation officials to review diversity recruitment, putting staff of DEI government agencies and programs on paid leave, and forcing the private sector to join the project.

The actions follow Trump’s executive orders to terminate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives that support women, LGBTQ+ individuals, ethnic minorities, and other historically underrepresented groups, which he issued on his first day in office.

Advocates for civil rights contend that these initiatives are required to confront systemic racism and historical injustices.

Trump asked firms to stop unlawful DEI discrimination and favors in a new executive order that was released on Tuesday. The directive also instructed government agencies to find private organizations that might be the subject of an inquiry.

Executive policies pertaining to equal employment opportunities, environmental issues, and pushing government contractors to attain workforce balancing based on gender, ethnicity, and religion that date back to 1965 are repealed.

According to the decree, each agency will identify up to nine potential civil compliance investigations of publicly traded companies, large non-profit corporations or associations, foundations with assets of at least $500 million, state and local bar and medical associations, and higher education institutions with endowments exceeding $1 billion as part of this plan.

It was not immediately clear how the Trump administration plans to carry out civil compliance investigations.

Federal and private sector employers may continue to provide precedence to veterans of the armed forces, according to the decree announced Tuesday.

In a separate move, the Trump administration ordered US federal government agencies and departments to discontinue all DEI initiatives and warned staff that they would be put on paid leave right away.

According to a memo from the Office of Personnel Management, by Wednesday’s end of business, the government should inform staff members of any government offices or units that are exclusively focused on DEI that their programs would be closed and staff members will be placed on leave.

According to the White House, Trump also signed a memorandum on Tuesday that directs the FAA Administrator to immediately stop DEI hiring efforts, ending a Biden administration goal to advance diversity in the agency.

Trump ordered the FAA to replace any staff members who did not prove their competency and to carry out a safety review.

According to a fact sheet issued by the administration, President Trump is immediately ending this unlawful and risky practice and mandating that all FAA employment decisions be made based only on guaranteeing airline passenger safety and general work quality.
