President Donald Trump chastised the government of Colombian President Gustavo Petro on Sunday for preventing US deportation planes from landing in his nation.
As part of Trump’s expanding deportation campaign, the United States moved two flights of illegal aliens from Colombia out of the country this past weekend. Trump criticized Petro’s argument on X that the US cannot treat Colombian migrants like criminals.
I have learned that two U.S. repatriation flights that were carrying a significant number of illegal criminals were denied entry into Colombia. Trump posted on social media that Colombia’s socialist president, Gustavo Petro, who is already very unpopular with his people, had issued this order.
Mr. Trump stated, “I have instructed my Administration to take the following immediate and decisive retaliatory measures because Petro’s denial of these flights has put the United States’ National Security and Public Safety at risk.”
Trump has mandated a 25% duty on all Colombian goods entering the US, which will rise to 50% in a week. Additionally, he revoked the visas and banned travel of all Colombian government personnel, including sympathizers and allies.

In an original statement released on Sunday, Petro denounced migrant planes.
Immigrants from Colombia cannot be treated like criminals in the US. I won’t let American aircraft bring migrants from Colombia into our country. According to Petro, before accepting migrants, the US must set up a procedure for their respectful treatment.
The Colombian president seemed to give in later on Sunday, promising to use his own presidential jet to assist in the repatriation of migrants to his nation. According to a statement from Petro, the aircraft would be deployed to let fellow citizens who were scheduled to come in the nation this morning from deportation flights return in dignity.
Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, has cautioned that the administration’s deportation program is only beginning. Homan said that everybody who entered the country illegally would soon be on the table, while officials are now focusing on illegal aliens who have committed violent crimes.
