Richmond police fatally shoot domestic violence suspect following standoff

After a confrontation with Richmond police on Tuesday night, a suspect in domestic abuse was shot and killed, sparking an inquiry.

Officers were dispatched to the 2700 block of Maine Avenue, close to Boorman Park, shortly after 8:10 p.m. in order to find a wanted individual. According to the police, the individual was wanted on a probation violation warrant related to allegations of domestic abuse.

Officers discovered the victim slightly west of the 300 block of Carlson Boulevard, close to the Union Pacific railroad tracks.

According to the police, a standoff occurred when the subject refused to cooperate with them.

In a statement, the agency stated that officers “spent approximately 32 minutes attempting to de-escalate the situation and reach a peaceful resolution.”

The suspect was shot by police at approximately 8:53. The suspect was fatally wounded.

The identify of the victim and any shooting-related information were not made public by the police.

According to police, the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office arrived on the site to conduct an investigation after the shooting, and the Contra Costa Law Enforcement Fatal Protocol was triggered.

“We are committed to a thorough, transparent investigation,” police stated.
