Police confirmed Friday that a shooting on an offramp on Interstate Highway 80 in Pinole earlier this month resulted from a driving rage incident that left one person seriously injured. They arrested a suspect.

According to Pinole police, the event occurred at approximately 7:40 p.m. on December 9. It was reported to dispatchers that there had been a shooting on the freeway and that the vehicles involved had pulled off at Appian Way. According to authorities, a gunshot victim was shot in Pinole and arrived at the emergency room of Kaiser Permanente hospital in Richmond shortly after.

Based on witness accounts, officers concluded that the incident started as a road rage incident on the Appian Way offramp from eastbound I-80. According to authorities, the driver of one car shot a passenger inside the second car as the confrontation continued into Appian Way and came to a stop at Fitzgerald Drive.

Detectives found that nearby surveillance cameras had recorded the incident, and they used the material to identify the suspect vehicle and share it with other law enforcement authorities. Richmond police officers located the car and arrested the man on December 10.

He was recognized as Richmond resident Otis Keller, 25. According to police, Keller was questioned and gave a statement that supported the testimonies of the witnesses. He was being jailed at the Martinez Detention Facility on $1.25 million bond after being booked on an allegation of attempted murder.
