Those who know the cannabis business owner who was shot Monday night are coming together to help him get better.

According to San Francisco police, officers were notified of a shooting in the vicinity of Mission and 9th Streets at approximately 4:55 p.m. According to reports, they arrived to find paramedics treating a man who had been shot.

Officers discovered that a suspect in the shooting may have been in a nearby building after the victim was taken to a nearby hospital with potentially fatal injuries. To encourage the suspect to depart and turn himself in amicably, officers erected a cordon around the building.

But the suspect allegedly disobeyed orders and wouldn’t leave the building. According to the police, a gunfight broke out between the suspect and officers as they tried to apprehend the individual.

After entering the building, officers discovered the suspect with potentially fatal injuries. Later, the suspect was declared deceased.

Gunshots were heard when Richard Palionny was working behind the bar at All Star Cafe.

“Everyone was looking around at first because they assumed it was fireworks, you know. After that, everyone simply ducked because it continued to go on,” Palionny recalled.

After that, police swarmed the neighborhood, Richard added.

“We saw like 10 cop cars pull up and then they were all just posted up around the perimeter and waiting,” Palionny recalled.

Richard claimed that he hastily shut down his store and left. Only later did he discover that the man who had been shot was the proprietor of the dispensary across the street.

“He is a very polite man. He’s cool, and if you smoke in there, he’ll talk to you. Palionny remarked, “He would occasionally smoke with us.

According to Jason Grace, the proprietor of the Vapor Room, Martin Olive, is that man.

“Martin is one of the wittiest, most clever people I’ve ever known and he doesn’t deserve what happened to him,” Grace remarked.

Jason has known Martin for almost two decades, he told KPIX. Jason gave Martin a tattoo in the Lower Haight, which is how they first met.

“We grew very close, like brothers,” Grace remarked.

Since then, Jason and his family have relocated to Oregon. Martin has had a difficult time, he added.

After the Vapor Room’s original location closed in 2012, Martin suffered a brain aneurysm approximately ten years ago.

“And that almost killed him and now for this to happen as well is just pretty crushing,” Grace added.

According to Richard, Martin is currently in stable condition while recuperating in the hospital.

According to him, Martin appears to be handling the video updates that his pals have been providing him calmly.

“He had to get stitches all along his chin and he’s still you know making jokes,” Grace remarked.

Jason is aware that Martin will have a lengthy path to recovery. He created a campaign for that reason, and it has raised $55,000 so far.

“To see that that many people have donated there’s a sense of love in that and a sense of community and so it got me pretty emotional,” Grace remarked.

Richard said he could tell Martin was unique even though he had only met him a few times.

All he wants now is for Martin to return across the street as quickly as possible.

“He was always willing to help and was the first one to volunteer if someone wanted to change something over here. Oh, if there was a petition to change something, he was the first person there. Palionny remarked, “I feel like I’m sending that man a lot of hopes and prayers.”
