San Jose police arrested eight people accused of gang-related violence

Eight people, two of whom were minors, have been arrested in San Jose for gang-related violence, police said Monday.

Police say the suspects were caught between October 15 and 17 after being investigated for a number of violent crimes that happened since November of last year.

Assault with a deadly weapon, carjacking, robbery, and illegal gun possession were some of the crimes.

“The preliminary investigations revealed these cases were gang-related or motivated, and not only targeted rival gang members, but also community members in the Loma Verde and Cadillac/Winchester neighborhoods,” police wrote in a statement.

Police from the Gang Investigations Unit said they had connected the crimes to a “known violent gang” and named the people they thought were responsible. People also got warrants for their arrest and searches.

Detectives said that while the warrants were being carried out, evidence, live ammunition, and a fully automatic submachine gun were found.

There are two adult suspects who are 22 years old. Josue Castro, Jonathan Rodriguez, 26, Daniel Romo, 21, Luis Arizmendi-Bravo, 20, Joe Maldonado, 21, and Erick Curiel, 19 years old.

Police said the girls are 16 and 17 years old and are the suspects. Because they were so young, their names were not made public.

All eight suspects live in San Jose.

The adults were taken to the Santa Clara County Jail, and the two teens were taken to juvenile hall.
