San Jose State defeated Stanford 34-31 on Friday thanks to a career-high four touchdown passes from quarterback Walker Eget, including an 18-yard connection to TreyShun Murray with 1:55 left.
Eget was intercepted once while completing 33 of 49 ball attempts for 385 yards. Nick Nash broke the San Jose State single-season record after hauling in nine passes for 91 yards and two touchdowns. Nash started the game leading the FBS in receptions and touchdown catches.

At this point, San Jose State (7-5) is awaiting word on a potential bowl berth. In the last two seasons and three of the last four, the Spartans have participated in the postseason.
Ashton Daniels, the quarterback for Stanford, was intercepted three times despite passing for 252 yards and one touchdown.
Due to multiple self-inflicted errors, the Cardinal (3-9) spent the majority of the day playing from behind. Stanford had 115 yards and 10 penalties.
With seven minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Daniels scored on a 1-yard keeper to put Stanford ahead 31-27.
Eget overthrew Nash in the end zone, but the Spartans failed on their next drive and turned the game up at the Cardinal 11-yard line.
In the first meeting between the two teams since 2013, Stanford came out throwing despite being backed up close to its own goal line, and with 2:39 left, Isiah Revis intercepted Daniels to set up the game-winning drive.
Nash recorded two-yard and twenty-yard touchdown catches.
The first time the two schools have faced each other since 2013, both teams’ long touchdowns were disallowed by penalties.
Takeaways
Stanford: For the majority of the day, it appeared that the Cardinals had no bowl games left to play for. The coaching staff was also suffering, making a number of dubious play-calls after driving deep into the Spartans’ red zone throughout the first half. Despite coming up empty, give Troy Taylor’s side credit for rallying and making a late surge.
San Jose State: As they wait to hear if they would be participating in a bowl game, this was an excellent test for the Spartans. Both Nash and Eget were outstanding throughout the game.
Up next
Stanford: The Cardinals won’t play again until August of the following season, when they travel to Hawaii.
San Jose State: The Spartans will need to wait for an invitation to a postseason game, but they are bowl eligible.
