Residents are being cautioned by Santa Clara County Superior Court officials about a rise in phone scams that make false claims regarding jury duty.
Scammers are employing advanced techniques, such as transmitting modified photos and posing as court officers by reciting or displaying fictitious badge numbers, the Superior Court said in a press statement on Wednesday.
The Court reminded county residents that sensitive identifying information, such as addresses or Social Security numbers, should never be provided to a caller and that court officials will never request such information over the phone.
The Court advised getting in touch with your local court’s jury office and reporting any questionable communications to the fraud unit of the local police department.
Hang up and give the Superior Court a call if you have any doubts about the legitimacy of the caller.
Anyone can report a call to [email protected] from someone claiming to be from the Court asking for personal information.
