Sharing is caring!

A sea lion was recently seen posing majestically in front of a church in the coastal town of Tomales, prompting California Highway Patrol officers to assist a Marine Mammal Rescue team.

Although it did not state the precise time the sea lion was discovered, the Santa Rosa CHP Facebook page shared pictures of the recovery on Wednesday afternoon.

“Santa Rosa CHP recently assisted Marine Mammal Rescue with the safe recovery of a stranded sea lion in Tomales,” the message read. “Officers were on scene to support the team’s efforts in protecting and caring for this marine animal.”

In the pictures, the sea lion was seated on the raised wall of the house close to the 26825 Main St. Catholic Church of the Assumption. The sea lion might have been able to swim closer to the location of its discovery in Keys Creek, but the church is a considerable way from Tomales Bay. Authorities were not told how the sea creature got so far inland, according to the article.

“We’re grateful for the important work Marine Mammal Rescue does to preserve and protect our wildlife,” the message said.
