A 62-year-old man from Arnold was arrested recently after he turned himself into law enforcement. He is accused of assaulting a 40-year-old man from Imperial during what appears to be a road rage incident.

The altercation reportedly took place on September 28, as confirmed by the Arnold Police Department.

The incident began around 4:45 p.m. when both individuals were driving south on Interstate 55.

According to the report, the Imperial man was behind the wheel of a 2021 Nissan Altima, while the Arnold man was driving a 1997 Dodge 1500.

The situation escalated when the Arnold man allegedly swerved his truck toward the Imperial man’s vehicle near the Butler Hill Road exit.

Feeling threatened, the Imperial man decided to exit the highway at Richardson Road, hoping to avoid further confrontation.

Unfortunately, the Arnold man followed closely behind. When they reached a stoplight, the Imperial man believed the Arnold man’s truck had hit his car, prompting him to step out and check for damage.

As he was inspecting his vehicle, the Arnold man also exited his truck, carrying a hammer. It was at this moment that the confrontation took a violent turn.

The Arnold man allegedly started swinging the hammer at the Imperial man, hitting him multiple times.

In fear for his safety, the Imperial man managed to get back into his car and drive away before calling the police for assistance.

After fleeing the scene, the Imperial man sought medical treatment at a nearby hospital, where he was admitted for his injuries. The police were immediately informed of the incident and began their investigation.
