Social Security update: VA survivor benefits you could claim in 2024

Sharing is caring!

Social Security reminds Veterans’ spouses and children who depend on them of the benefits they may be able to get. People who depend on you don’t have to be children; some parents may also qualify. There are many benefits that a veteran’s family could get.

For example, they could apply for help with money or school, home loans, a pension for survivors, or VA Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (D.I.C.). So, there are many options for spouses, parents, and children who depend on them.

Social Security and VA Dependency and Indemnity Compensation

This is the first thing the Administration suggests you do if a Veteran in your family dies. The truth is that it will give monthly payments to people who are eligible.

This payment can go to the surviving spouse, parents who need help, or children. This benefit can be claimed if the Veteran dies in the line of duty, from an illness or injury related to their service, or while they are sick or hurt on the job.

VA: Accrued benefits

Social Security claims that this will be a one-time payment for eligible spouse, dependent parents or children. But you must be a spouse or dependent of “a deceased Veteran based on relationship when the record shows additional benefits”.

VA: Other benefits Social Security offers
