Her path from a little North Dakota village to the national arena is about to take a significant turn for the better.
Tomorrow, Sophia Richards will leave Fargo to begin her journey to become the newest Miss America.
The woman from Hope, North Dakota, claims that she began participating in pageants at the age of sixteen. For three years, she competed in Miss North Dakota Teen, placing second each time.
Richards was encouraged to run for Miss North Dakota by a friend. In her first Miss North Dakota contest, she did not make it to the finals. She placed first runner-up the next year.
She clarified, “I came too close to just giving it up.” Two years before, after missing the final round, Richards had contemplated giving up pageantry.
The third time worked out perfectly.
She told me, “I believe my story is a story of perseverance and not giving up on your dreams.”
Richards will now take a plane to Orlando, where she will compete until January 1 for the title of Miss America.
She will be one of 52 competitors vying for the title when she arrives in Orlando.
Her objective? Get into the top ten.
She assured the audience, “That (52 competitors) doesn’t deter me.” I’ve always had a passion for competition.
She hopes to place in the top 10 and take home at least one preliminary prize.

A young child has limited opportunity to mature as a result.
Richards recalls, “I didn’t have the opportunities that a lot of folks did.” I had to give myself opportunities.
During the week, Richards hosts a lifestyle television program.
She told me that I literally have my dream job in a small town in North Dakota, approximately an hour distant from where I was raised. To achieve your goals, you don’t need to relocate to a big city or outside of your home state.
In the state where my family has been farming for five generations, I am truly living the good life.
That fact, in Richards’ opinion, is important.
Suggestions for Upcoming Pageants
Richards tells those who are thinking about pageantry not to consider it.
Simply do it, she said. To broaden your horizons, it’s crucial to push yourself outside your comfort zone, and nothing will do so more effectively than a pageant.
