I can’t help but think of Daylight Saving Time as I sit here in the dark on this early January morning. Is it too soon to dream about New York’s longer, brighter evenings? I was afraid it was still a long way off, so I was reluctant to look at the calendar. Fortunately, there is hope for the future!
An yearly opportunity to move the clocks forward by one hour is known as Daylight Saving Time. The sun is currently setting at 4:56 p.m. We would witness sunset at a considerably brighter 5:56 PM if the time change had taken place today. That sounds lovely, doesn’t it? What’s the best part? It will be here in less than two months!
Daylight Saving Time 2025 in New York
The Old Farmer’s Almanac states that the custom of changing the clocks dates back to 1915 in Germany. In 1916, the British did the same, and in 1918, the United States and Canada joined.
Many people believe that the purpose of Daylight Saving Time was to help farmers. Actually, a lot of farmers were against the idea of jumping ahead and then falling back right away. Let’s move on from history and discuss when the clocks will move forward in 2025.
We switch clocks and take advantage of the longer days at this time of year. On Sunday, March 9, 2025, at 2:00 a.m., New York will observe Daylight Saving Time. We’ll jump ahead and advance our clocks by one hour at this point. When Daylight Saving Time expires on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at 2 a.m., we’ll go back to our previous schedule later in the year.
Sunrise and Sunset Changes
Sunrise and sunset times will change as we move our clocks, adding additional daylight to our evenings. Here is a brief overview of the modifications:
-
January 22nd:
Sunrise at 7:18 AM, Sunset at 4:56 PM -
March 9th:
Sunrise at 6:28 AM, Sunset at 5:49 PM
In comparison to late January, we will have an additional hour and forty-three minutes of daylight by March 9th, which will provide us more time to be outside and enjoy the sun.
