Funeral services for Arlene O’Neill, a beloved teacher from Eastchester Union Free School District, who was tragically killed in a murder-suicide at her Yonkers home, will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 22, and Wednesday, Oct. 23.

The incident, which happened on Wednesday, Oct. 16, left the community in shock.

O’Neill, a dedicated fifth-grade teacher at Anne Hutchinson School, was killed by her husband, Sean O’Neill, a retired New York City Police Department officer.

According to authorities, after fatally shooting his wife at their Chittenden Avenue home, Sean O’Neill turned the gun on himself.

Their three children, Sean, 15, Brendan, 13, and Nolan, 11, were at home during the tragic event.

The visitation for Arlene O’Neill will be held at Flynn Memorial Home, located at 1652 Central Park Ave., on Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The Yonkers Police have advised that traffic will likely be affected along the northbound Central Park Avenue service road, particularly between Tuckahoe Road and Plymouth Avenue, due to the large number of expected attendees. Parking in the area will also be limited.

A funeral service will follow on Wednesday at Annunciation Church, located at 475 Westchester Ave., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This is expected to cause additional traffic congestion in the surrounding streets. St. Eleanoras Lane will be temporarily closed between Scarsdale Road and Westchester Avenue to ensure the safety of the attendees.

Parking in nearby areas will be restricted, but the Yonkers Police will be present to help manage traffic and provide assistance.

Arlene O’Neill’s death has left a deep impact on her students, colleagues, and the entire community.
