In front of a gated enclave in Discovery Bay, a truck crashed into a security guard post, as captured on dramatic dashcam footage from a Tesla. According to the California Highway Patrol, the impact killed one security guard and seriously injured another.

The more recent Hyundai Santa Cruz vehicle was seen rushing down the middle lawn prior to the collision in the Tesla video.

According to witnesses, the two guards had no time to leave the watch shack and very little time to react.

“I think I heard the two guards yelling stop, stop, stop because they had seen the car coming towards them, right before the impact,” Paul Singh, a witness, said.

The guard who was killed was identified by Pastor Marcus Burns of Bethlehem Temple Church as Rene Bucaro, 62, a longtime parishioner.

About ten years had passed since he first met Bucaro.

“I simply had to come out and observe what transpired and how it might have occurred. It’s still astonishing to me,” Pastor Burns remarked.

The 17-year-old teen driver was also hurt in the collision, according to CHP. According to them, the truck was empty of occupants. Following hospital treatment, the motorist was taken into custody by police on charges of vehicular manslaughter. The driver has a booking in the Juvenile Hall of Contra Costa County.

The adolescent has a provisional license, according to the officers. Drivers with provisional licenses are prohibited from operating a vehicle in California between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. At 11:56 p.m. on Friday, the collision occurred on Balfour Road in front of The Lakes, a private community.

Alcohol did not seem to be an issue, according to the officers. They were looking into why the adolescent drove onto the grass for about half a football field and didn’t stop.

“I’m just baffled with so much room on the left side, so much room on the right side (of the guard shack),” Pastor Burns remarked.

Linda Sarros, a Lakes resident, stated, “It’s just really sad that this keeps happening,”

In the past two years, cars have struck the building three or four times, according to the neighbors.

Sarros remembered a police pursuit that ended in a collision at the building. According to her, an older driver also struck the wall during the summer.

“An older person, senior, that had a medical incident, and lost control, and wiped out the right side of the guard gate where you go through for the guest entrance,” stated Sarros.

According to Pastor Burns, Bucaro lived alone in Oakley without a spouse or children. According to him, Bucaro’s relatives are still in Guatemala.

According to Pastor Burns, he had three jobs.

He works diligently and has always made an effort to improve himself. “I think he wasn’t even supposed to be here, so it’s very unfortunate that he would come to his second job,” Pastor Burns said.

According to neighbors who spoke with Bucaro prior to the collision, he was covering for the regular guard who had taken the night off.

“You have time when it’s your time. There’s nothing else you can do,” Pastor Burns remarked.
