The holidays are quickly approaching, and next week, ideally with family present, we will all be enjoying turkey to begin the season of joyous celebration. Actually, one of the main causes of retirees’ anxiety in November is Thanksgiving, but there is some good news for those who have yet to get their Social Security check.
It is a month filled with many expenses, and many people worry that their paycheck won’t arrive in time for the turkey or the shopping because of the food purchases needed to feed a family or a small army, as well as the crazy rush of Black Friday and Cyber Monday to obtain the greatest discounts on Christmas presents. However, that won’t be the case this year.
Social Security payments in November
Although the majority of beneficiaries will have already received their monthly check, which will cover all of their expenses, one group of people—those born between the 21st and the 31st of any given month—has yet to receive their retirement check. They will receive their November deposit on Wednesday, November 27, 2024. Although this payment is normally disbursed on this date, many people are concerned that the holidays may affect its prompt arrival.
Throughout the year, the Social Security Administration (SSA) is in charge of making numerous payments; now is not the time to make a mistake. All checks will be prepared for timely deposit into accounts and mailboxes so you can spend them thanks to the SSA’s well-oiled mechanism.
The same problems occur year after year, particularly in the winter. Unpredictable snowfalls, system failures, natural disasters, etc., cannot be prevented, but there are safeguards in place to make sure the funds don’t get misplaced and reach their intended recipient on schedule during these crucial periods of the year.
This year, shortly after Turkey Day, there is some more positive news.Payments from Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will also arrive in people’s mailboxes and accounts! In time for a shopping trip.
Although not all retirees will receive this additional payment, those who qualify will have their December SSI payment advanced and issued on Friday, November 29. SSI pays monthly benefits to older persons with impairments and those with few or no income or resources.
It would be lovely, but unfortunately, this is not an attempt by the federal government to make purchasing easier. This follows the procedure that the SSA implements when a distribution date falls on a weekend or a national holiday. In this instance, the payment must be shifted to the day before banks are open and the US Postal Service distributes mail because December 1st, when SSI should be dispersed, is a Sunday.
Contrary to popular belief, Black Friday is not actually a federal holiday (banks are open and the mail is delivered) even though most companies make the best of the long weekend, and so the distribution ofSSI checksis scheduled for Friday 29 of November.
Even though it will be a nice gift to ring in the new year, those who have already received their checks or are still waiting should not spend the entire amount at once because there is still Christmas to consider and no more SSI checks will be issued until December 31st, shortly after the majority of expenses have been paid.
