The ghosts of Indians and Soldiers haunt Detroit’s Fort Wayne

Fort Wayne is on the Detroit River, just a mile from the Canadian border. It is one of the most talked-about haunted places in Michigan. The limestone buildings, which are still standing, were built starting in 1842 and finished in 1848.

There are extra barracks, officers’ homes and quarters, a commissary, a garage, a guard house, a hospital (which has since been torn down), a jailhouse, a port, a recreation building (which is now a tourist center), shops, stables, and Indian burial grounds all around the fort.

In the early 1900s, when the field was dug up, Native American bodies from more than 900 years ago were found. Indian ghosts that are restless and soldiers from the Civil War who died a long time ago are thought to be responsible for the hauntings that people keep seeing and experiencing.

Some paranormal hunters and a lot of other people say they have seen or recorded things that aren’t real, like footsteps that don’t belong, voices that aren’t there, dark shadows that look like people, doors that open and close by themselves, and apparitions in the early morning. Ghosts talking to each other has also been heard by detectives. A ghost is said to live in the guest bathrooms, especially the women’s bathroom. Maybe the spirits of soldiers who were in love still stay.

The fort is at 6053 West Jefferson Avenue in Detroit. It was named a Michigan State Historic Site in 1958 and is ready for you to visit! The pictures below might make you want to check it out even more. Even during the day, the houses are very creepy!
