According to CHP, the unappealing odor that some Dublin locals could have detected early on Friday morning was caused by a tractor-trailer loaded with chocolate that had burned beside westbound I-580.

At approximately 6:45 a.m. Friday, CHP first reported that a tractor-trailer fire was obstructing the right lanes of traffic on westbound I-580 west of Grant Line Rd. in Alameda County.

Alameda County Fire and CHP units arrived on the site. Later Friday morning, the Dublin CHP office shared images and video of the burning car emitting a thick cloud of black smoke as CHP officers drew closer.

This is the reason for this morning’s delays on westbound I-580 close to Grant Line Road. Can you guess what the trailer contained? Chocolate!tweet.com/U7KfCnheQy

Authorities estimate that clearing the area and extinguishing the fire took more than three hours. According to CHP, the freeway’s right lane was blocked until just before ten in the morning. There were no injuries reported.

In a subsequent post to X, CHP Dublin stated that the trailer’s contents were chocolate.

The trailer’s contents were completely destroyed by the fire, as seen in the post’s last image.
