Commissioner Kevin Marino Cabrera of Miami-Dade County was nominated by U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday to serve as ambassador to Panama.

Trump characterized Cabrera as a ferocious defender of America First ideals who has aided in promoting global collaboration and economic expansion.

Kevin has a deeper understanding of Latin American politics than others. He will advocate our country’s interests in Panama with FANTASTIC results! On Truth Social, he wrote.

His selection as ambassador was made in response to Trump’s threats to restore US authority over the Panama Canal, which the US controlled for many years before ceding to Panama in 1999.

Beyond their wildest expectations, Trump accused the Central American nation, with whom the United States has maintained diplomatic ties since 1903, of defrauding us on the Panama Canal.

Trump charged Chinese troops on Wednesday with operating the canal illegally and constantly ensuring that the US contributes billions of dollars for repairs while saying nothing at all.

According to President Jose Raul Mulino of Panama, China had no say in how the canal was run.

Although CK Hutchison Holdings, a Hong Kong-based company, has long operated two ports at the canal’s Caribbean and Pacific mouths, China does not own or operate the canal.
