In a statement released on Friday, Washington House Minority Leader Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., denounced Thanksgiving Day threats against Democratic legislators, which included everything from swatting to precise threats of a pipe bomb left in mailboxes.

Several Connecticut Democrats in the House, including Reps. Jahana Hayes, Jim Himes, and Joe Courtney, received bomb threats at their residences on Thursday.

Jeffries said that members of Congress and their families were safe over the holiday because of the police’s prompt action, which resulted in the discovery of no devices.

MAGA, or “Make America Great Again,” is Donald Trump’s campaign slogan, and it was used to sign the threats against Democrats.

The threats were sent the day after several of Trump’s cabinet nominees received similar ones.

America is a land of liberty. In a civilized society, threats of violence against elected leaders are abhorrent and should never occur. According to Jeffries, anyone who incites political violence against a party must face the worst penalties possible.
