After three Virginia males were arrested for allegedly participating in a roofing scam targeting senior citizens, San Mateo County became the subject of a police investigation.

KTVU claims that the suspects overcharged for poor and frequently unnecessary services by using fictitious contractor licenses.

When San Mateo police received a tip about a group of people with Irish accents going by the name Statewide Roofing and Siding in November 2023, the investigation got underway. When one victim realized that his mother was being wildly overcharged for roofing work that was never done, the fraud was exposed.

Police discovered that similar scams had been reported after collaborating with other Peninsula departments.

Charlie Anderson, David Anderson, and Darren Temple have been charged and will be arraigned on December 5, according to a social media statement by the San Mateo County District Attorney.

On May 7, a man went to the police because he thought his mother had been duped by a company that had first promised a free roof assessment.

The suspect’s first assertions of modest repairs swiftly escalated into an expensive declaration that the entire roof needed to be replaced.

Professional-sounding business names, such as Teco Roofing and Masonry, were used to trick the victims of this fraud. Police concluded that the scam was not limited to a single corporate label when they found that fake names were being used during their investigation.

On May 8, the suspects were taken into custody and charged with stealing from dependent or elderly individuals. Police are searching for any other victims and are still conducting their investigation.

Officer Thornburg of the San Mateo Police Department has been urged to get in touch with anyone who has had roofing work done by Teco Roofing and Siding or Statewide Roofing and Siding.
