The Golden State Warriors lost 104-101 at Toronto on Monday night after blowing a nine-point lead in the fourth quarter, dropping them below.500 for the first time this season.

Golden State (19-20), which won 12 of its first 15 games, is now 7-17.

“It sucks,” according to coach Steve Kerr. “I don’t like falling below .500 but here we are, so we’ve got to do better.”

Lindy Waters III’s 3-pointer with 9:27 remaining gave the Warriors their largest lead of the game, 86-77, but Toronto outscored Golden State 27-15 the remainder of the game.

“This is as frustrating a loss as we’ve had all season,” Kerr stated. “This game was right there for us to win and we just let them get right back in it.”

It’s the most recent setback in a difficult run that has already caused Kerr to doubt his team’s “competitive spirit” following previous home defeats to Miami and Sacramento.

After Golden State lost to a Raptors club that had lost 16 of 17, Andrew Wiggins expressed his coach’s disappointment.

“It’s tough for sure,” said Wiggins. “I felt we came in feeling good, confident.”

With 26 points, Stephen Curry moved up to 28th place on the NBA all-time record, surpassing Hall of Fame player Allen Iverson (24,368). Curry wasn’t particularly in the mood to celebrate the milestone.

“This one does sting for sure,” he stated, “and we really needed it.”

The Warriors played a game where the score was within five points in the last five minutes for the twenty-fourth time this season. No one has played more than Minnesota (25).

Kerr remarked, “I’ve got to do a better job,” “Every game is going to be close right now, and we lack the discipline to win these close games. We must prevail by a slim margin. “Coaching is the reason we’re not winning by the margins.”
