What is the most wanted blue penny? If you have it, you can auction it for U$D 18 thousand

Nowadays, there are coins that are worth a lot of money, either because of their history or their rarity, and in the world of numismatic collectors, they mainly evaluate the state of conservation in order to have access to them by paying a very high sum, but it also depends on their rarity. This is the case of a 10 centavo coin that stands out for its beauty, reflected in its unusual color: it is a blue penny.

It is worth noting that the condition of the coin is a determining factor for its value. It is rigorously evaluated before giving it a professional grade, since any sign of wear could considerably reduce its price.

What is the blue penny that may be worth a lot of money?

It is the 1968 10-cent, known as the “Dime No S” because it does not have the representative mintmark of the San Francisco Mint. One of its main rarities is its unusual powder blue color, which makes it more attractive to collectors.

Although there are other specimens with a similar value, such as those minted in 1970, 1975, 1983 and 1990, the 1968 coin is considered the first 10-cent coin with this error and the third in the list of the most relevant coins in the United States.

This coin is composed of 75% copper and 25% nickel, which gives it its characteristic color. Currently, there are about 40 certified specimens in good condition. At a Heritage Auctions auction in January 2024, this specimen sold for U$D 18,000.
