It is said that the Texas woman who is being charged with killing her husband over the weekend said the gun went off by accident when he bumped into her while she was helping him into the house while he was drunk.

The police say that Marisol Solis Zamora, 42, is charged with murder in the death of Miguel Zamora Martinez, 47.

The killings took place on Lone Oak Road in Houston on Saturday night around 11 p.m. Lawyers for the defendant said that her children heard two gunshots and saw her holding the gun close to the body. Authorities say that deputies found his dead body in the driveway.

Details that came out during the defendant’s probable cause hearing, as reported by Damali Keith of the local Fox affiliate KRIV, showed that the defendant first said it was self-defense and then said it was an accident.

At the hearing, Zamora’s court-appointed defense lawyer said she was helping her husband while he was “drunkly trying to stumble from the car to the house” and that the gun went off by accident when he bumped into her.

“The idea that this might have been an accident is also supported by the fact that one of the teens said the gun was stuck or seemed to be acting up in some way,” the lawyer said.

The couple’s three teenage children were home at the time and didn’t say they heard an argument, the lawyer said. No one is said to have seen what happened. The lawyer said that Marisol Zimora told the police that there wasn’t a fight.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that her story about how her husband got hurt “did not align with the physical evidence at the scene.”

During the court hearing, Zamora’s lawyer said that she had no criminal record and was about to start training to become a paralegal.

People around were shocked.

One person told KRIV, “I heard just a loud noise.” “Then we heard people screaming and crying.” He was lying next to the trash cans. It was a very bad experience.

Marisol Zamora is being held at the Harris County Jail, and her bail has been set at $100,000. On Dec. 16, she is scheduled to go to court.
