Grand Junction, COA A winter weather advisory has been issued for portions of western Colorado, and starting Friday night, heavy snowfall is predicted.
The alert will be in force from Friday at 5 p.m. until Sunday at 5 a.m., according to the Grand Junction National Weather Service (NWS).
Cities including Columbine, Hahns Peak, Toponas, Buford, and Trappers Lake have been impacted, as have the Elkhead and Park Mountains and Flat Tops. Four to eight inches of snow are predicted.
As snow builds up, the NWS cautions that the area’s roadways, bridges, and overpasses may become slippery and dangerous. It is advised that drivers exercise caution and slow down.
511 is a statewide traffic information service that travelers can use to be informed about road conditions.
Travel delays in mountainous areas may result from the alert, which comes as Colorado is experiencing a string of snow storms that are usual for late January.
By having emergency supplies in their cars and frequently monitoring forecasts, residents are urged to be ready for winter driving conditions.
Although icy roads may continue to exist throughout the day, snow is predicted to end early Sunday morning.
