After reportedly leaving her six-week-old child in her car while working a shift at McDonald’s, a woman from North Carolina was taken into custody.
Police filed two arrest warrants for 21-year-old Nikita Jones on December 2nd, one for felony intentional child abuse resulting in significant physical injury and one for misdemeanor child abuse.
The arrest warrants claim that Jones not only left her newborn unattended in her car, where authorities claim the temperature was below 40 degrees, but also allegedly hit the infant in the face, resulting in noticeable bruises around her eyes, according to WRAL, a local NBC affiliate.
Associated coverage:
On November 21, Jones reportedly left her infant in the car and switched it off as she started her shift at the Raleigh McDonald’s. The warrants state that Jones hit her infant the previous day, November 20, causing the girl’s face to be scratched, swollen, and bruised.
The baby’s present condition is unknown, and it’s unclear how long she was in the car before someone found her.
Court documents acquired by local CBS affiliate WNCN show that Jones was arrested and placed on a $5,000 misdemeanor and $50,000 felony secured bond.
On December 10, the court will arraign her on the felony accusation. On December 19, she will appear in court again for the misdemeanor.
