Women accused of using a ‘leash with spikes,’ belt to beat three children for not completing chores to their satisfaction

After the boys failed to finish their tasks, police in Texas arrested two mothers for reportedly assaulting three youngsters with a spiked and belted dog leash.

Jacalyn Cook, 30, and Haley Blevins, 19, are accused with several charges of child injury, a felony.

The mother of the boys, who are aged 12, 7, and 4, called Texarkana police on October 15 to report the alleged abuse that had taken place a few days prior, per a probable cause arrest document.

The 30-year-old mother clarified that after experiencing homelessness, she and her three kids moved in with Cook. Eventually, Cook let Blevins move in too. Blevins has a history of mental health problems, so the mother reportedly voiced worries about her.

She said her oldest son told her he and his brothers had been abused when she got home from work on October 11.

He said that Blevins gave the three of them jobs to do when they got home from school. According to the affidavit, the tasks included putting a mattress outside, moving a couch from one room to another, and doing the dishes.

According to authorities, Blevins allegedly started punching the boys because she wasn’t satisfied with the way the duties were done.

According to the oldest son, Blevins and Cook had struck him more than twenty times. The three boys’ legs and buttocks were found to have welts and bruises by the police. According to detectives, the injuries seemed severe in terms of discipline.

To conduct interviews, investigators brought the boys to the Children’s Advocacy Center. The 7-year-old said Blevins struck him with a belt and Cook whooped him from a tree with a spiked switch.

He said he was instructed to wash the dishes, but he stopped when he ran out of soap. Blevins allegedly came into the room after he had laid down on his bed and started beating him with a heavy belt. He was then told by Blevins to move a couch to a different room, but he found it challenging to move due to its weight.

According to the complaint, Blevins reportedly struck him with the belt each time he dropped it. Police said Blevins proceeded to beat him and his brothers with the belt after forcing them to stand against a wall.

Cook and Blevins were brought to Bowie County Jail after being detained.
